UPDATE: All Lanes Back Open On I-5 After Big Rig Crash
ELK GROVE (CBS13) - A big rig overturned on southbound Interstate 5 just north of Laguna Boulevard on Tuesday afternoon, initially blocking all three lanes and clogging the afternoon commute.
The truck was hauling a 53-foot trailer loaded with pool piping and supplies when it jackknifed and overturned just before 2 p.m.
The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries to his hand.
CBS13's Derek Shore reported at about 3:30 that the left lane was reopened to traffic but required vehicles to drive on the shoulder to get through the crash area. The big rig was pulled back upright at about 4 p.m. and all lanes were back open at about 4:30, but traffic was still moving very slowly through the area.
The exact cause of the crash is unknown but witnesses told the CHP the driver, a 54-year-old Stockton resident, was in the slow lane and drifted into the middle lane and attempted to steer back into the slow lane when he lost control.
