Out Of The Darkness Walk Helps Families Affected By Suicide

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CBS13) - On Saturday, friends and family who have a loved one who committed suicide gathered together for a Walk Out of the Darkness.

The annual event, aimed to boost suicide prevention and work to end the stigma surrounding mental illness, was held at the State Capitol.

CBS13 spoke with Lauren Santoro, who lost her teenage daughter Isabel to suicide in early 2016, and claimed the event was a way for her to grieve.

"It made me feel like I was doing something," Santoro said.  "It gives you a different connection also to people who have gone through the same thing."

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among teenagers.
