UPDATE: Identity Of Tahoe Plane Crash Victim Released

LAKE TAHOE (CBS13) — Officials have released the identity of the man who was killed when his plane crashed after takeoff Monday morning from the Lake Tahoe Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration says Steve Lefton, 67, of Palo Alto was killed just after 11 a.m. when his single-engine Mooney M-20 crashed into a wooded area .

Lefton's wife, Karen, was also on the plane and suffered moderate injuries.

Off-duty CalStar flight nurse Beth Frisby was walking her dog in the area and came upon the wreckage. She provided some medical aid to Karen until paramedics arrived.

Karen was flown to Renown Hospital in Reno.

The exact cause of the crash is being investigated by the FAA and NTSB.
