UPDATE: Witness Comes To Aid Of Big Rig Driver In Fatal Stockton Crash
STOCKTON (CBS13) – One person has died after a violent collision between a big rig and car on a major Stockton roadway, according to Stockton Police, and another might have if not for the quick actions of a driver following behind.
The accident happened on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard/Charter Way and East Mariposa Road during the Wednesday morning commute.
The driver of the smashed-up sedan was taken to the hospital but did not survive. The driver of the big rig was also transported to the hospital with what is being described as moderate injuries after he was pulled away from the crash scene by Brian Watts, who saw the accident unfold in front of him.
"It was over in a hurry, it was over in a minute," Watts said of the Wednesday morning crash. "I'm just so thankful that guy made it out of there."
Brian ran in with the garbage truck engulfed in flames while dozens of morning commuters just drove right by.
"Once you hear him yelling for help, that's it, I'm in full bore. This was my day to make sure he walked out of there. And that's it," Watts said.
