One Dead After Tree Comes Down On Oakland Highway
OAKLAND (AP) — Authorities say one person was killed after two vehicles crashed into a tree that came down on a highway in Oakland.
The series of crashes on Highway 13 near Park Boulevard began around 4 a.m. Thursday when a vehicle carrying four people hit a downed tree.
California Highway Patrol spokesman Sam Morgan says the driver pulled into the median area, and he and the three passengers got out. A truck then hit the same tree and went airborne, leading the driver of the first vehicle to be fatally struck.
One of his passengers was pinned under a portion of the tree although crews managed to free her.
Morgan says the passengers and the truck driver suffered minor to moderate injuries.
