Officials: Vietnamese Man Dies In ICE Custody In Arizona
PHOENIX (AP) — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials say a Vietnamese man has died in custody in Arizona while awaiting deportation.
Tran is the seventh detainee to die in ICE custody during fiscal year 2018 that began Oct. 1, 2017.
He entered the U.S. as a legal permanent resident but was being deported because of a criminal conviction for aggravated assault.
Tran was placed in ICE custody May 25 after serving his sentence and was hospitalized June 5 after falling ill.
