Officials Tranquilize 300-Pound Bear Spotted On SoCal Freeway
MONTROSE (CBSLA.com) — A 300-pound bear that was spotted wandering across the Foothill (210) Freeway has been tranquilized, officials reported Sunday.
Captain Mike Parker Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau said via Twitter that officials with the California Department of Fish and Game tranquilized the bear at 10:15 a.m. at Hermosa and Sunset avenues.
According to KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO, the bear sighting was reported near La Crescenta Avenue off-ramp around 9 a.m., prompting officials to close the highway for about 15 minutes in both directions.
Traffic was diverted at Pennsylvania Avenue.
Before walking up the La Crescenta on-ramp, Parker said that the bear also hung out in front of a closed nail salon and around the track at Crescenta Valley High School.
Reverse 911 calls were made to residents in the area to alert them of the bear sighting, an official told KNX 1070.
