Two Arrested For Allegedly Shooting At Modesto Police Officers

MODESTO (CBS13) – Two people have been arrested after allegedly shooting at two Modesto police officers overnight.

The shooting happened just before 1:00 a.m. near Orville Wright Elementary School at Monterey and Empire Avenues as two Modesto Police officers were checking on a burglar alarm at the school.

The officers say they heard gunshots and bullets striking the building and the ground near where they were standing.  The officers called for back-up and an intense search began.

At about 3:30, officers detained several people in the backyard of a home that backs up to the school.  They also found shell casings in the yard.

After questioning, police arrested 24-year-old Danny Soto and 20-year-old Alvin Thomas for assault with a deadly weapon at a police officer.

Another man was also arrested for a parole violation.
