NTSB Investigating Lodi Skydiving Plane Crash
ACAMPO (CBS13) – The FAA and NTSB are looking into what caused a skydiving plane to crash near Lodi with 18 people on board.
The crash happened on east Jahant Road, east of Highway 99, in Acampo Thursday afternoon.
The single-engine Cessna took off from Lodi Municipal Airport and experienced engine trouble, the FAA says.
The pilot tried to return to the airport but didn't make it, clipping a pickup truck on the way down.
"It clipped the back end of our vehicle and then went across and flipped out in the vineyard," said Cindy Martin, whose truck was clipped.
Passengers were visibly shaken but relatively unscathed.
The pilot had just minor injuries.
The owner of the parachute center in Acampo says he doesn't know what went wrong and that the plane was well maintained and used regularly.
