North Sacramento Residents Battling Tire Slashings, Paint Dumpings On Cars
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — North Sacramento residents are trying to protect their cars from tire slashings and paint dumping without much success.
Vandals have targeted the cars at the apartment complex off of Northgate multiple times.
They've dealt with vandalism for months, and the damage has escalated from slashed tires, to cars covered in wet paint to racist graffiti on the property.
"It hurts. It makes you want to cry."
"It's cost me at least $1,300 in tires."
Al Harvell says he's missing work because he has no way to get there.
And it's worse for Michael Jones-Jackson, who says he's already lost his job because of this.
"My car hasn't been suitable for me to make it to work."
Lashanti Simmons says repeatedly paying for new tires means she hasn't been able to pay her power bill for two months now.
"I have to neglect something in order to pay for some tires."
And now the vandals are including the mobile-home park next door in their destruction.
"These are hard-working people. They can't really afford to be buying tire after tire."
People here are now taking turns staying up overnight to catch whoever is doing this.
"There's no way we can police it ourselves, because we work."
Sacramento Police say they're aware of the problem and want the community to stay vigilant.
But the victims worry it'll get worse before the criminals are caught.
