New Construction To Bring 7,900 Jobs To Stockton
STOCKTON, Calif. (CBS13) -- The construction of a new healthcare facility is expected to bring thousands of construction and health care jobs into the hard-hit Stockton region starting this summer.
Building the federally mandated facility will lead to jobs for about 5,500 workers, contractors and suppliers and more than $1 billion spent in the local economy, according to officials.
Once the facility is open, officials say about 2,400 permanent jobs with an annual payroll of more than $220 million will be created.
The state is constructing the California Healthcare Facility to comply with a federal judge's orders to provide better care for sick state prisoners with long-term treatment needs.
The project's organizers, Skanska/Moss, will be reaching out to local contractors through the Builders Exchange of Stockton. Specific job opportunities will be listed once contractors are hired.
