New Approach To Golden Gate Bridge Hits Snag
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Plans to replace a seismically unsafe approach to the Golden Gate Bridge have hit a snag.
An Alameda County judge on Wednesday issued a temporary restraining order preventing state transportation officials from entering into a public-private partnership for part of the Doyle Drive reconstruction project.
The ruling came in response to a request from a public employees union, which cited a state report that said the deal would cost California more than anticipated. State transportation officials dispute that.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that a hearing on a permanent injunction is set for Dec. 30.
Doyle Drive serves as the southern approach to the bridge. But it has been deemed seismically unsafe.
Construction on the $1 billion project to replace it has already begun.
