Nevada County Murder Suspect Arrested In Elk Grove After Pursuit
ELK GROVE (CBS13) – A man wanted for allegedly stabbing a man to death at a Nevada County party overnight was arrested Thursday morning after a pursuit through three counties that ended in Elk Grove, according to officials.
The incident began just after midnight in Nevada County when deputies were called to a home in 11000 block of Lake Shore North in Lake of the Pines for what was reported as a disturbance. While enroute, more 911 calls came in saying there had been a stabbing at the same address, according to Nevada County Sheriff's Lt. John Kropp.
When deputies and medical personnel arrived, they found a 33-year-old man dead from stab wounds.
Witnesses told deputies the suspect, 24-year-old Brandon Riddleterrel of Petaluma, had left the home in a vehicle. Placer County Sheriff's deputies then spotted the suspect near Auburn and began chasing him.
As the pursuit continued, CHP and eventually Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies joined in.
The pursuit ended when Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies laid out spike strips blowing the suspect's tires at Calvine and Grant Line roads.
"Tack strips were used fairly early and slowed him down but he continued driving on the rims," Sacramento County sheriff's Deputy Dave Cuneo said.
Deputies, with the help of a canine officer, took Riddleterrel into custody. Riddleterrel was bitten by the canine and was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution.
Lt. Kropp says the home where the stabbing took place is not a "troubled address." He says about six adults were at the home at the time of the stabbing.
The victim's name has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
In a bizarre side note, another man was arrested at the crime scene after he tried to drive through it. The underage driver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.
"He tried to drive through six or seven squad cars," Cuneo said.
No other information was immediately available.
