NBA Commissioner David Stern Will Attend Sacramento Kings Home Opener On Oct. 30
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — NBA commissioner David Stern confirmed he'll be in Sacramento on Oct. 30 for the Sacramento Kings home opener.
The man that many credit with orchestrating Sacramento's efforts save the Kings spoke briefly about the franchise's arena progress on Wednesday.
In his final NBA Board of Governors meeting before retiring as commissioner, Stern picked a different sport to describe Sacramento's arena progress.
"It's really going swimmingly," he said.
The Kings say they made a splash and are lapping the competition with more new season ticket packages than any other franchise, and Stern says the new ownership is on pace with this new arena projections.
"They gave us a report that they are on schedule to be ready for the 2016–17 season. They've acquired the site. There's one piece of property remaining. It will either be purchased or foreclosed on by eminent domain," Stern said.
He also jabbed the groups trying to put the $258 million public arena subsidy on a ballot.
"Not citizens, but nonunion workers were unhappy with the deal to employ union workers in the arena," he said.
Stern will step down as commissioner in February marking 30 years for him in that position.
