Natomas Teen Reportedly Kidnapped, Raped

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- A teenage girl was kidnapped right off the street then brutally raped, but police didn't say anything about the crime right away.

They do have a suspect in custody but aren't releasing his name or photo, citing the ongoing investigation and the possibility of more victims.

Police say the abduction by a stranger happened early Friday morning in a nice north Natomas neighborhood off Del Paso road near Truxel.

The 34-year-old suspect was driving a van. The 15-year-old was walking, just minutes away from school.

"She was out walking near her home when a man pulled up in a van and grabbed her," said Officer Laura Peck of the Sacramento Police Department.

The man is being charged with multiple sexual assaults, according to police. He's being held in the Sacramento County Jail on $2.5 million bail.

The girl was eventually released from the van and she had the alertness to get the man's license plate number as he drove away, Peck said.

That led police to a quiet Elverta neighborhood over the weekend, where he was hunted down and arrested.

"She made our job easier by having that information," Peck said.

The allegations against the man have shocked his neighbors, one of whom said the suspect has a daughter of his own.

"He's always out playing with his daughter," Carla Watkins said. "I'm just shocked!"

"It caught me by surprise," another neighbor, Ricardo Robles, said. "I really didn't see it coming."

Many in the neighborhood have known the suspect since he was a teen. And as far as they know, he's never been in trouble.

But that didn't stop their outrage over the allegations he now faces.

"He deserves what he's going to get," Robles said.
