Multiple People Stabbed In Large Scale Riot At New Folsom Prison
FOLSOM (CBS13) – Two inmates have been stabbed and several others hurt in the large-scale riot involving 150 inmates at California State Prison, Sacramento, according to prison officials.
The riot broke out on the B-Facility Main Exercise Yard just after 10 a.m. Prison staff fired a "less lethal" round, pepper spray, and one warning shot to stop the melee.
Sacramento Metro firefighters were called to the prison and called for three additional medics, another engine and help from the Folsom Fire department.
The two inmates who were stabbed multiple times were taken to UC Davis Medical Center. One of the inmates is currently in surgery, and the other is said to be in stable condition. Other inmates with severe injuries were taken to other local hospitals by ambulance or state vehicles. No prison staff members were hurt.
All of the inmates were being kept in the yard while prison officials assessed their injuries and sorted out who was involved in the brawl.
The entire prison is on a "modified" program and will remain on lockdown throughout the weekend.
On February 8, 2011 four corrections officers at the facility suffered minor injuries when were attacked by a group of inmates.
