Motorists Warned About Concrete Chunks Left In Roadway On Purpose

CERES, Calif. (CBS13) - Police in the Valley are warning drivers to be cautious while driving at night because someone is placing large chunks of concrete in the middle of poorly lit roadways.

Ceres Police say they've gotten reports of at least ten incidents in the past four months where a motorist struck a large piece of concrete that had been intentionally left in the road.

The latest incident happened last Friday night in the 100 block of Mitchell Road.  While the driver was uninjured, their vehicle was so heavily damaged it couldn't be driven.

The incidents have all happened at night between 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. on highly traveled, high speed roads in dark areas.  At least twice, the vandals attempted to camouflage the concrete by either painting it black or wrapping it in a black plastic bag.

In Ceres, the concrete chunks have been left on Hatch Road between Central and Moffet, Hatch Road between Mitchell and Faith Home and on Mitchell Road between Hatch and River Road.

There have been reports of similar incidents in other parts of Stanislaus County and Modesto.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crime to call Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers at 1-866-60-CRIME or you can go to www.modestopolice.com/crimestoppers
