Crash Kills 1 Person On Interstate 80 In Sacramento County
CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) - One person is dead following a crash on Interstate 80 on Tuesday morning.
The crash happened in westbound lanes of the freeway at Antelope weigh scales and involved a big rig and a motorcycle, say police.
The rider, who was identified as a 38-year-old man out of Los Angeles, has died. The CHP said the rider collided with the rear of a Ford Fusion that was driving in front of him.
Officers said the rider and the bike were sliding on the roadway and came to rest in the path of a big rig. The big rig was unable to stop or avoid hitting the rider.
Traffic had been reduced to one lane until 6:20 a.m.
Officers said the driver of the sedan, a 58-year-old woman from Citrus Heights, and the big rig, a 64-year-old man from Granite Bay, stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Neither of the drivers was injured.
Investigators do not know if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this collision.
