Most Sac County Pot Shops At Risk Under New Rules

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – County officials proposed new regulations Tuesday that medical marijuana dispensary owners say will put most of them out of business.

After years of operating with few regulations, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors released a plan that would ban pot shops within 300 feet of any residentially zoned property and 1,000 feet from schools, school bus stops, churches, parks or youth facilities.

Under those rules, most of the 75 dispensaries in operation in Sacramento County would be forced to close.

No officials would speak on camera Tuesday about the new regulations, but dispensary owners, lawyers and lobbyists expressed outrage about the sudden changes.

The regulations stand in stark contrast to the City of Sacramento, which allowed 39 existing shops to be grandfathered into tight new regulations.

The Board of Supervisors will vote on the regulations next Tuesday. If approved, the changes take effect immediately.
