Momentum Builds After Season-Opening Win Over Lakers
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — An opening-season win over the Los Angeles Lakers, still despised by many Kings fans for knocking Sacramento out of the playoffs in a heated 2002 series, has injected even more momentum into this important season for the capital city.
A day after the Kings' 100-91 win before a sellout crowd at Power Balance Pavilion on Monday, the Kings announced Tuesday that the team's next home game, Thursday against the Chicago Bulls, has also been sold out.
There were about 1,000 tickets left by 2 p.m. Tuesday, but they too were gobbled up before close of business. Back-to-back sellouts will be the team's first since 2007.
The box office was busy Tuesday with fans wanting to see for themselves this young Kings team that took down Kobe Bryant and the high-profile Lakers.
"It has everything to do with last night," one fan said after buying tickets.
Chris Clark is the director of public relations for the Kings. He says since the win Monday night, phone calls for tickets started coming in constantly.
"It boosts morale on the organization, it boosts morale of our fan base, and it really brings the community together," Clark told CBS13's Ben Sosenko.
And for Kings management and the fans, it's still early in the season, but what a way to start
"Beating the Lakers, that's always a big deal," said fan Bruce Hamlett of Elk Grove.
Hamlett saw some tickets online that he liked for Thursday's Bulls games, but by the time he drove over to the box office, they were gone.
It appears the Kings are suddenly a hot ticket in town again.
