Modesto Teen Charged With Trying To Kill 1-Month-Old Daughter

MODESTO (CBS13) - A Modesto teen is charged with trying to kill her baby by placing poison in her bottle.

Cashel Phin, 18, is also accused of offering to pay a pair of relatives to kill her 1-month-old baby girl for her and of hitting the baby with her purse.

Police say Phin told a Modesto High School classmate about her plan.

The Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office filed a long list of charges against the teen mom.

Classmates learned of the arrest Thursday.

"Everyone is just really, really shocked and feel hurt themselves that someone would try to do that to their child," Emily Sneed said.

"I'm pretty happy they found out about this," Jose Perez said. "That way the baby will be safe."

Phin didn't attend her scheduled court appearance, where a judge raised her bail to $1.6 million.
