Modesto Shooting Suspects Sought
MODESTO (CBS13) -- Modesto police detectives have arrested one suspect and are searching for two more in the shooting of a cigarette store clerk earlier this week.
Officers responded to a shooting at Wally's Discount Hookahs & Cigarettes, located at 2419 Coffee Road in northeast Modesto. When officers arrived they learned three suspects entered the store and robbed the store clerk.
As all three suspects exited with an undisclosed amount of money, one of the suspects shot the clerk. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
Witnesses were able to provide officers with a vehicle description, partial license plate and a last direction of travel. In addition, patrol Officer Jessie Garcia recalled seeing the suspect vehicle a day prior to the robbery, while investigating a vandalism call in the 3900 block of Pan Am Drive.
Detectives located the green van Tuesday at residence in the 3900 block of Pan Am Drive and watched Kenneth Akeem Brooks, a 21-year-old Modesto resident, enter the van and drive away. Officers stopped the van and arrested Brooks, who they believe was the shooter. Brooks was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for attempted murder, robbery, and parole violations.
Investigators have identified as 18-year-old Luis Cabrera and 20-year-old Josue Pulido, both from Union City, as the additional suspects. Cabrera and Pulido are wanted for attempted murder and robbery.
