Modesto Police: 3 Teens Arrested In Gang-Related Shooting
MODESTO (CBS13) - A gang rivalry appears to be the cause of a Modesto shooting that occurred earlier this month.
On Saturday, Dec. 1, just before 8 p.m. Modesto police officers responded to a shooting at Alex & Son's Market located at 515 Martin Luther King Drive.
Officers discovered a 19-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds inside the market. A second victim, a 40-year-old male, was struck by a stray bullet during the shooting. However, he was treated for his injuries and later released.
Initially, police say the 19-year-old was uncooperative and told officers he fell while riding his bicycle.
Following an investigation, detectives learned the shooting was the result of a conflict between the victim and another group. Detectives believe the parties involved are rival gang members.
On Dec. 4, detectives identified 19-year-old Socorro Acosta as a suspect. He was arrested at the Stanislaus County Courthouse, while attending an unrelated court hearing.
Further investigation led detectives to arrest 18-year-old Rudy Luna and a 17-year-old male juvenile on Friday.
The three suspects are believed to be members of a Norteño street gang, while the 19-year-old victim is believed to be a member of a rivial Sureño street gang.
The 19-year-old remains in critical but stable condition at a Modesto hospital.
The three suspects were booked into the Stanislaus County jail for attempted murder and gang-related crimes.
Investigators are still looking to speak to anyone who may have any information on this shooting.
