Modesto Man One Of Mega Millions Winners
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A Modesto man is one of eight so far to claim $227,955 after matching five of the numbers in Friday's record Mega Millions jackpot.
Of those eight winners, four have come into the Lottery's Sacramento District Office to claim their prizes. One of those winners was Greg Campbell, who purchased his ticket at Jack's Liquor at 910 Oakdale Road in Modesto.
Campbell was one of the 29 players in California who successfully matched the numbers 46, 23, 38, 4 and 2, and missed only the Mega number of 23.
Campbell said that he doesn't play the Lottery a lot, only usually when the jackpot levels get to a higher level. The Mega Millions jackpot reached $640 million last week, a Lottery record. Campbell said he first thought he had won $227 when he checked his ticket at the retail location, but after checking again he saw the correct amount and was instantly in shock.
Campbell, who works as a mechanic, said he then had to call his wife in Oklahoma City, where she was visiting their kids.
He said that after conferring with his wife, they've decided to talk to their accountant about how best to use their winnings, but they hope to pay off what they owe on their house and pay a few other bills.
