Modesto Approves New Budget, More Police Officers

MODESTO (CBS13) - Modesto residents could see more officers patrolling the streets in the near future.

City council recently approved the city's $361 million budget – which included money to hire an additional 22 police officers.

The department says it's excited about having new recruits.

"We're looking to the future and hopefully providing a safer community and getting crime rates down," said Heather Graves with the Modesto Police Department.

Discussions on the final budget agreement are set for June 21.
