Minivan Driver Pins 3 Victims Against Sacramento Restaurant Wall
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Three people were hospitalized when they were pinned against the wall of a popular Sacramento restaurant by a vehicle.
"It was a real loud crash that came through the building and then there was a lot of moaning and screaming," said one witness.
Several people were leaving China Buffet restaurant on 14th Street and Broadway at around noon when an elderly driver trying to park a minivan pushed the accelerator instead of the brake.
"We walked out 'cause we heard the big boom from inside the restaurant and we all came out and they were laying there," witness Marlene Andrade said. "There was blood coming out of their legs."
The driver -- believed to be in her 70s -- slammed into the three people, causing multiple injuries. Witnesses say the elderly woman appeared confused and didn't back up.
"Instead of putting the gear into reverse, she went straight into them," said Andrade.
The victims were pinned until customers screamed at the driver to back up.
"He didn't look good at all. He was white as a ghost," a witness said of one victim.
The victims suffered non-life threatening injuries, including broken bones. All three are expected to recover.
No charges have been filed against the driver as the investigation continues. Police say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
