Mike Wise Talks About Washington Capitals And Redskins
Mike Wise from the Washington Post was on to talk about the Washington Capitals. The Caps have a game 7 against the New York Rangers on Saturday. Mike said that the Caps have taken a lot of big blows this series, but have managed to battle back and they aren't phased by much anymore. Dale Hunter, who took over for Bruce Boudreau, was old school at first and the players didn't like it. However, they eventually responded and made the playoffs. The Caps were readied for the postseason by having to battle late in the season for their playoff spot. Their series against the defending champion Boston Bruins got them ready for this series as well. Given this experience, Mike said that the Capitals should make it all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals.
Alex Ovechkin uncharacteristically struggled this season, and Mike said that it was partly because he didn't respond to Hunter at first. Ovechkin was ticked off at the perception of him that he didn't care about winning, so he's been trying to battle that all season. However he's playing better as of late, and Mike said that it's because he has begun learning to play defense in Hunter's system.
Finally, Mike discussed the Washington Redskins, Washington Nationals and Washington Wizards. He said that each team has a good, young player that fans are getting excited for. He said that the Redskins have Robert Griffin III, the Nationals have Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper, the Wizards have John Wall and the Capitals have a young goalie, Braden Holtby. That combination of young guys has brought a lot of civic pride to the Washington DC area, according to Wise.
