Mike Silver Gives His Thoughts On Peyton Manning's Future In The NFL
Mike Silver from Yahoo Sports came on the show to talk about Peyton Manning being released, and where he may end up. Mike discussed why exactly the Colts and Jim Irsay decided to cut ties with Manning, He cited the money that Manning was going to be due, and the effects of his four neck surgeries and not having played all of the 2011 season. Grant asked Mike about the San Francisco 49ers being a potential landing spot for Manning. Mike explained that the 49ers should pursue Manning, but have multiple fallback options with Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick.
Grant and Mike also discussed the current saga regarding bounties in the NFL, and what will happen to the Saints and Gregg Williams. Mike offered his thoughts on what Roger Goodell would do in regards to punishment for the New Orleans Saints' organization, as well as Sean Payton and Gregg Williams.
Next, Grant asked Mike about Dennis Allen, Reggie McKenzie and the new regime for the Oakland Raiders. Mike said that Mark Davis has done a good job of implementing football people to take over operations of the team, after his late father Al Davis treated him like a "punk," which may have made Mark's job difficult. Mike talked about moves the Raiders may make to get under the salary cap and the future of linebacker Kamerion Wimbley. Mike also talked about Darren McFadden, Michael Bush and where each of them fits with the Raiders following the exit of Hue Jackson as the team's head coach.
Finally, Grant asked about Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. Mike talked about Brees' commitment to the Saints and how the Saints are banking on that commitment in helping to sign him long-term. Brees was given the franchise tag by the Saints, which didn't allow him to hold out for a long-term deal with the team.
