Midtown Residents Balk At Proposed Brewery
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A proposed Midtown brewery has residents worried about what it might bring to a normally quiet area of town.
Karen Jacques was excited about the possibility of converting a warehouse at 26th and R streets, until she found out a brewery is set to open in the building.
"Now I feel fear for it," she said.
She has lived in the neighborhood for 30 years and doesn't want the area to become a party zone.
"One of our biggest worries is the noise."
But the property owners says the project is nothing like that.
"Make a nice project, make it family friendly, neighborhood friendly," said Jim Quessenberry. "That is what we are trying to do. We are not trying to be a thorn in anyone's side."
He says his group has met all of the neighbors' demands, including a noise-prevention wall near the future patio and stopping alcohol service at 8 p.m.
While trouble is brewing at the proposed brewery, we checked and found several late-night bars just a short walk away.
So why is there an issue with this one and not the others?
"This is a very residential neighborhood," Jacques said. "It's one of the few areas of Midtown that hasn't seen the negative impact of Midtown's nightlife."
Jacques has filed an appeal with the city as well as a lawsuit to prevent the brewery from pouring its first beer.
She says she's not against development, she's just against another place in Midtown that serves alcohol.
The Sacramento City Council will review the project on July 23.
