Middle schooler struck by hit-and-run suspect in front of Sacramento school
SACRAMENTO – A Sacramento middle school student was struck by a car while in the crosswalk right in front of campus Thursday morning, officials say.
The incident happened in the crosswalk at Albert Einstein Middle School.
In a letter sent to families alerting them about the incident, the school principal says the student was riding a bike and trying to cross at the crosswalk when they were struck.
First responders transported the student to the hospital.
"Unfortunate accidents like this serve as a reminder for all of us, especially students and drivers, to be more mindful of safety in and near our neighborhood school zones," wrote Principal Chase Tafoya.
The driver didn't stop, prompting California Highway Patrol to investigate the incident as a hit-and-run.
It doesn't appear that the driver has been identified at this time, and authorities are urging anyone who may have seen the incident to call CHP.
