Memorial For Fallen Dixon Police Officer Finally To Be Held Nearly A Century Later

DIXON (CBS13) – The only Dixon Police Officer to ever die in the line of duty will be remembered today nearly a century after is death.

Tarron Lane, a dedicated Boy Scout, uncovered the story of Constable Daniel McKinnon.

McKinnon was chasing down an armed man who had already killed one person.   McKinnon tried to convince the man to put down his gun to no avail.  The suspect shot and killed McKinnon.

No memorial for McKinnon was ever held.

After discovering McKinnon's story, Lane pushed for today's memorial.

The public is invited to the ceremony today which will end at the Silveyville Cemetery where McKinnon as buried.
