Mega Millions Jackpot Skyrockets To $640 Million
SACRAMENTO (CBS) — The Mega Millions jackpot has now skyrocketed to an estimated $640 million for Friday's drawing.
The jackpot jumped to $640 million Friday morning after reaching a world record jackpot on Thursday of $540 million.
If a single winner won the jackpot and the annual payment option was chosen, payments would be $24 million a year for 26 years before taxes. The retailer who sells the winning ticket would get a $1 million bonus.
The previous jackpot record was $390 million, for a Mega Millions game in March 2007. Two winning tickets that year were purchased in Georgia and New Jersey.
This jackpot has been growing since Jan. 24, when Mega Millions had its last jackpot winner.
The jackpot has now rolled 18 times without a winner. The odds of winning the jackpot are approximately 1 in 176 million.
