Medical Board Reprimands Yuba City Doctor For Contaminated Surfaces, Unlabeled Syringes
YUBA CITY (CBS13) — A Yuba City doctor is defending himself after the state medical board says it found contaminated surfaces, unlabeled syringes and more.
Dr. Madhu Jodhani says the violations are all minor and promises it's all been fixed. The Yuba City oncologist is anxious to defend himself.
"There was nothing unusual about it," he said.
According to a complaint from the state medical board, he "failed to maintain an office with sufficient emphasis on cleaning and disinfection." In one room, an investigator says "patients were seated around a blue tray ... stained with spatters of fluid drops," and a hazmat waste container was soiled with blood and dirt with no top.
In addition, there were no boxes of exam gloves in the treatment room.
An area behind a trash can was splattered with dried fluids. The doctor admitted the area may not have been disinfected for 10 years. There were also multiple unlabeled syringes found with clear liquid.
Patient Danny Valenzuela was surprised to find out about this.
"It seemed clean; they must've just come at the wrong time," he said.
The medical board also took issue with the doctor's "largely illegible" patient notes, adding during he was unable to decipher his own handwritten notes in one patient record during an interview with the board.
He says he's made changes to satisfy the medical board. He's agreed to a settlement with a public reprimand and has promised to attend medical record-keeping and prescribing practices courses.
