Manhunt Closes Yolo Causeway, Affects Local Business
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - It's was a haunting image. The Yolo Causeway was empty, traffic shut down in both directions, and created quite the cluster on neighboring freeways.
It was gridlock on I-5 as tens of thousands of frustrated drivers tried to find a way around the massive manhunt for a dangerous suspect.
And that traffic meant a lot of lost business.
"It was pretty quite," said Ramon Antonio.
Antonio, who manages the 49er Truck Stop off Interstate 80 near the Causeway, says he lost about 35 percent of his business today.
"It actually frustrates you just because we are trying to, we're running our regular business like on any normal day," said Antonio.
It wasn't just the store that lost business; so did the truckers.
"We have a truck driver that missed his pickup and basically that's the reason he had to stay here overnight," said Antonio.
Oishii Teriyaki in West Sacramento didn't have its normal Friday lunch rush, which equated to a 25-percent loss in revenue.
It was a frightening Friday all the way around the Yolo Causeway, no matter which way you slice it.
