Man Unharmed After Shark Bites Kayak Off Capitola
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (AP/CBS13) — A man has escaped injury after being thrown from his kayak by a great white shark that bumped up against the boat and bit through its thick shell off Capitola.
Santa Cruz County Sheriff's deputies said the 52-year-old Fremont man was rescued by a boater who witnessed Saturday morning's attack near a popular surfing spot known as Pleasure Point.
The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports the shark's teeth sheared the front end of the nearly 14-foot kayak. Investigators extracted tooth fragments from the bite marks and confirmed that it was those of a great white shark.
The attack prompted Capitola police to issue a text message alert advising beachgoers to use caution when entering the water.
