Man Suspected Of Luring Children In Roseville Released

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) -- A man Roseville police thought could be trying to lure kids into his van has been questioned and released.

The man was taken into custody Friday and parents were notified of his arrest by the school district. They weren't immediately notified of his release, but the superintendent said a message went out Monday afternoon.

"I had no idea that he had been released," said parent Christina Via earlier Monday.

The news of the arrest was welcomed by parents, but now they're on edge again.

"Oh, I was excited," one parent said. "My older two walk to school with friends and we had to start sending a parent with them."

Roseville police say they're working with inconsistent descriptions. Some kids say the stranger approached them in a van, others say a car. Some say he was alone, others describe a woman with him.

"it's really tough to determine exactly what we're looking for," said Sgt. Cal Walstad "so we are having forensic interviewers look at these cases and then go back and talk to some of the other kids."

For now they've stepped up patrols, including undercover cars. Meanwhile, parents remain concerned.

"I just think it's horrible, it's disgusting, it's pathetic," said Gates Elementary parent Kristi Legue. "I think it's sad for the entire Roseville community that we can't just let our children be children."
