Man Shot Trying To Stop Home Invasion Robber From Getting Away
DEL PASO HEIGHTS (CBS13) – A man trying to prevent an alleged home invasion robber from getting away was shot in Del Paso Heights on Wednesday morning.
Sacramento Police were called to Rene Avenue near Interstate 80 and Marysville Boulevard around 5 a.m. for reports of a shooting.
They arrived to find a man who had been shot in the foot.
Police say the shooting stems from an home invasion robbery at a nearby home. At least one masked suspect entered that house and fled carrying some stolen items. A witness tells CBS13 the suspect was carrying a dresser drawer and it appeared money was falling from it.
As the suspect tried to get away, a Good Samaritan attempted to try and stop the alleged thief. But the suspect shot the Good Samaritan in the foot and fled in a waiting car.
"Guy walks out the house, starts running, had a dresser drawer in his hand, made it about halfway down the street,
turned, fired at a guy, fired three more times, then got in his car and left," said witness Doug, who declined to give his last name.
Sacramento Police were searching the area for the suspects and scouring the neighborhood for evidence but didn't have much to go on.
"Other than a white vehicle, that's all we have right now," Sgt. Mike Nichols said.
The Good Samaritan's injuries are not life-threatening but may have lost a toe in the shooting, police said.
