Man Sentenced To 6 Years For Death Of Shelter Volunteer
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- The man who was convicted of running over a homeless shelter volunteer worker has been sentenced to 6 years and 8 months in prison.
Jeffrey Crayton Yelverton was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and felony hit-and-run late last month for killing Thomas "Bill" Deollos on March 28, 2010, in front of the Loaves and Fishes shelter.
Prosecutors accused Yelverton of speeding past the shelter and driving directly at Deollos when several workers attempted to stop him. Deollos was severely injured and died two months later.
Yelverton drove to a nearby mall and reported the incident as an attempted robbery, claiming he acted in self defense.
