Man Murdered In Davis Apartment

DAVIS (CBS13) -- A man was arrested for allegedly killing another man in his apartment Saturday morning, the first murder in Davis in seven years, according to authorities.

The Davis Police Department says 42-year-old Kevin Steery, a physically disabled man who used a scooter for mobility, was strangled to death inside his bedroom at the College Square apartment complex on J Street.

Authorities have not released a motive for the crime but have arrested 36-year-old James Ming, an acquaintance of the victim.

Ming allegedly strangled Steery with his bare hands Saturday morning, calling 911 much later in the day to report Steery's death.

The incident is the first murder in Davis since November 2004, when a 35-year-old man was shot in an apartment complex on Cowell Boulevard.
