UPDATE: Man Fatally Shot Outside Stockton Shoe Store
STOCKTON (CBS13) — A man was found shot outside a Payless Shoe Store in Stockton on Friday morning and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter at a local hospital, police said.
The incident happened at 434 E. Charter Way. A Payless employee told CBS13 that he arrived at the store at about 9:30 a.m. and saw a man laying on the ground in the parking lot but didn't know at that point if the man was dead or alive.
Stockton Police Department spokesman Officer Pete Smith confirmed that a man had been shot and later died. Th man's identity wasn't released.
A parent of a student at nearby Edison High School said her daughter told her the school was on lockdown but that hadn't been confirmed.
The shoe store parking lot remained blocked off as of about 11 a.m. as police investigated.
No suspect has been identified.
