Man Found Guilty Of Murdering Parents In Natomas
NATOMAS (CBS13) -- An Auburn man was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder Wednesday afternoon for the killing of his parents three years ago.
Matthew Riley, 34, faces a sentence of life without parole when he goes before Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Gary S. Mullen on Dec. 2.
On Dec. 9, 2008, Riley went to his parent's south Natomas home and stabbed Steve and Linda Riley to death. Each victim suffered 19 stab wounds, detectives said.
Riley had reportedly lost his job and his family was about to be evicted from their Auburn apartment. He told detectives he went to his parents house to ask to move in with them with his marriage failing.
Riley called 911 the afternoon of the murders to report finding the bodies of his father, 54, and mother, 53. He denied committing the murders and reportedly offered to take a polygraph test, in which detectives said he performed poorly on.
