Man Finds Gun Believed To Be Dorner's; Autopsy Shows Single Gunshot Wound Killed Ex-Cop
ANGELUS OAKS (CBS) — CBS13's sister station Los Angeles got a firsthand look on Friday morning at what might be one of Christopher Dorner's guns.
CBS2 News is the only station to get a firsthand look at what may have been a weapon used by Dorner, the ex-Los Angeles Police Department officer who was killed after a massive manhunt Tuesday.
An Angelus Oaks resident made a startling discovery Friday morning when he found a weapon believed to be used by Dorner in the snow.
The man, who was walking in the area, found a P-22 long barrel with a suppressor.
He then called the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, which sent deputies to retrieve the weapon.
The man, who was at the site moments after Dorner crashed a hijacked truck on Tuesday, said he was stopped by police.
"As we pulled up, they stopped us and they thought he was in our vehicle," he said.
He says he wanted to come back to see where the 10-day ordeal – which claimed the lives of four people, as well as Dorner – finally came to an end.
Dorner was cornered in a cabin on Tuesday and it set fire after deputies fired tear gas into. A single gunshot could be heard as the fire started to burn, and on Friday the sheriff's office confirmed that Dorner died from a single gunshot wound to the head. San Bernardino County sheriff's Capt. Sheriff John McMahon told reporters Friday that it appears the wound was self-inflicted.
Dorner was fired from the LAPD in 2009 and released a manifesto earlier this month vowing his revenge.
Before he died, Dorner killed one sheriff's deputy and wounded another during the fierce shootout. He's accused of killing three other people, including a Riverside police officer.
