Man Dies In Collision With Big Rig
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- The driver of a sedan was killed Sunday morning after crashing into a semi-tractor trailer at high speed, authorities said.
The victim, described as an Asian male in his 20s, was driving east on Elder Creek Road at about 8:00 a.m. when he slammed into the side of a big rig traveling south on Power Inn Road, trapping his Toyota Camry underneath the larger vehicle.
Witnesses rushed to the scene of the accident to help, but the sedan driver had died on impact.
Nearby streets around the intersection were closed for hours after the accident while investigators combed through the scene. An official cause has not been determined, but Sacramento Police spokesman Sgt. Norm Leong said witness statements indicate that the Camry may have run through a red light.
Local residents say the intersection often sees serious accidents. Last year, a 9-month-old girl and her mother were killed in the same location by a drunk driver.
The identity of the victim in Sunday's crash has not been released.
