Man Dies After Officer Involved Shooting

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- The man who was shot by a police officer after allegedly approaching him with a knife has died from his injuries, authorities said.

The Sacramento Police Department said the 20-year-old suspect had attacked several people on the 2900 block of Silk Court just after 12:30 p.m., and when officers responded to the scene, the man came out of a bedroom with a knife in his hand.

When the suspect ignored orders to stop, one of the officers attempted to use a Taser to disable him, but the device did not have an effect on him.

One of the officers shot the suspect in the upper body when the man continued to approach them with a knife, authorities said. The wounded subject was transported to the hospital, where he died Friday afternoon.

The identity of the suspect has not been released, pending notification of his family.

The officer who fired the shot is described as a 16-year veteran of the Sacramento Police Department and has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting.
