Man Convicted Of '09 Freeway Shootings
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- A Sacramento County man accused of shooting at drivers on Interstate 80 has been convicted of attempted murder.
A jury came to the guilty verdict Monday against 24-year-old Kyle Douglas Frank.
Prosecutors say Frank terrorized drivers during the summer of 2009 by opening fire at vehicles on the freeway. None were seriously injured, but one woman was grazed by a bullet on her leg.
Prosecutors filed hate crime allegations against Frank, but jurors rejected that charge Monday. Some jurors told the Sacramento Bee after the verdict that the attacks appeared to be random, not racial.
The defense argued that Frank only shot into door panels when he had the opportunity to shoot drivers through the window.
Franks faces a maximum 92 years in prison when he's sentenced April 11.
