SOUTH LAKE TAHOE (CBS13) - A child was hospitalized and a community is afraid to eat at certain restaurants and businesses after a man was caught on camera poisoning food.

"It is scary and they still don't know what the source is," said Gina Parks while visiting for the holiday.

South Lake Tahoe Police said it's happened multiple times, first at Raley's and now Baja Fresh.

"This is a very hazardous situation," said Lt. Brian Williams with South Lake Tahoe PD.

Baja Fresh was forced to shutdown its salsa bar after a 12-year-old boy fell sick and was hospitalized.

Parks said she saw the story on the news and is afraid to eat out.

"My husband and I normally get the Chinese food here at this Raley's when we come to Tahoe, but we didn't this time because of that, the tampering of the hot Chinese food," she said.

Police aren't sure what the poison is, but warn diners to watch what you eat.

"This substance has left a foamy type of white presence on the food," said Lt. Williams says.

Investigators believe the suspect's bold and brazen move to possibly strike again can only help the investigation.

"If he is a local, somebody knows him and somebody's going to be able to recognize him and we're going to catch him," he said.

Police believe the suspect is 5'7, with a thin build, seen here in this video, wearing a hat and dark sunglasses.

Locals and visitors hope this guy is caught before anyone else gets hurt.

If you see something out of the ordinary, report it.
