Suspect In Natomas Restaurant Burglary Arrested At Nearby Gas Station
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A man was arrested for breaking into a Chipotle restaurant in Natomas on Friday morning.
At around 5 a.m., a man smashed through the front window of the restaurant, went inside and began trying to open a safe behind the front counter, say police. The man was able to cut through the safe, but didn't take any contents.
During the break-in, the man tripped a silent alarm.
"As we get here, we see a broken window," said Sacramento Police Department Ofc. David Eagleton. "The officer I'm partnered with, he looks in there, sees a guy hiding behind the counter."
The man suddenly ran across Truxel Road to a gas station where he fell on the floor and surrendered to officers.
"He tires out, falls on the ground, and we get him into custody, so that's a good day for us," said Eagleton.
The window was repaired and the restaurant opened back up for business on Friday.
"I think it was a crime of opportunity," said Asst. General Manager Taylor Pacera. "They came in looking for something and they found something better. They really didn't walk away with anything."
The suspect is identified as 38-year-old Lejeun Johnson. He faces charges of burglary and being in possession of burglary tools.
