Man Accused Of Taking 44 Lost Smartphones At Tahoe Festival
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) - A Nevada man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing 44 smartphones valued at over $17,000 from the lost-and-found department of a South Lake Tahoe music festival.
Jermaine Williams is accused of taking the smartphones from a locked storage case at the SnowGlobe festival venue at Lake Tahoe Community College and putting them in a suitcase.
He's also accused of offering to return a stolen smartphone to a victim for $20.
The 38-year-old Williams, who worked for a festival contractor, was booked on suspicion of felony grand theft.
Police say SnowGlobe organizers turned over all lost property they collected over the three-day festival that ended early New Year's Day, and staff is trying to return items to their owners.
