California Museum To Get Retired Space Shuttle

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- NASA says the California Science Center in Los Angeles will become the home of the space shuttle Endeavour when the shuttle program concludes.

The announcement Tuesday will bring a new jewel to the center's aviation and space collection.

The California Science Center opened in February 1998 and hosts 1.4 million visitors a year.

Located in Exposition Park near Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the admission-free Science Center includes the Sketch Foundation Air and Space Gallery which combines items owned by the Science Center and loans from the Smithsonian Institution.

They include a Lockheed F-104 Starfighter supersonic jet, a Douglas DC-8 passenger jetliner, and Blackbird spyplanes.
