Loose Horse Struck, Killed By Car In Citrus Heights

CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) – Fire crews had to cut a person out of a car after the driver struck and killed a horse.

Sacramento Metro Fire says four horses escaped from a Citrus Heights paddock near Auburn Boulevard and Hackney Way sometime before 1 a.m. Wednesday.

A driver passing through the area then hit one of the horses – the impact crushing the windshield and the front and top of the car. One person inside the car was trapped and had to be pulled out by fire crews.

Three people were inside the car at the time. All were taken to the hospital, but fire crews say they were not seriously hurt.

The horse hit by the car was killed. The other three horses are OK.
